You can be patient with her, she has A LOT to process. She is emotionally freaked out – she needs you not to be when you are talking to her. Because the people in charge don’t know any better. But you do – be sure  to take your stainless steel tumbler with your reverse osmosis filter water in so you stay hydrated. When (if ) you ever feel ready discuss the bottled water with your doctor and the Facility Manager.

A nurse navigator is a registered nurse who specializes in guiding patients through the complexities of the healthcare system. Their role is to provide personalized care and support, helping patients understand their diagnosis, treatment options, and follow-up care. Nurse navigators often work in oncology, cardiology, and chronic disease management, but their expertise is valuable in many other medical fields as well.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Education: Educating patients about their condition, treatment options, and what to expect during the treatment process.
  • Coordination of Care: Coordinating various aspects of a patient’s care, including scheduling appointments, coordinating with multiple healthcare professionals, and ensuring that treatments are administered on time.
  • Emotional Support: Providing emotional support to patients and their families, helping them cope with the stress and anxiety that may accompany serious health conditions.
  • Resource Management: Assisting patients in accessing resources, such as financial aid, support groups, and other community services that can help alleviate the burden of medical treatment.
  • Advocacy: Acting as advocates for patients, ensuring that their needs and preferences are communicated to the healthcare team and that they receive patient-centered care

BCA has found through the breast cancer patients that we have assisted that breast cancer nurse navigators are not very helpful. They are focused on carrying out the doctors’ treatment preferences for the patient, with little concern for what the patient actually wants and they are too busy nowadays to provide any real emotional support. In reality their job sounds good but it leaves much to be desired. Count yourself very lucky if you get one who actually fulfills their job description!
